About Us

Food is a humble and ubiquitous form of communication. We are always looking out for those who infuse it with inventiveness but respect simplicity. We started this blog to share favourites from our own kitchen, spontaneous bites from the Vancouver Island food scene, recaps from our travels, and surprises from the friends we connect with along the way. The writing and photos are usually mine, but Mr. ST. is the constant researcher who is perpetually infected with the travel bug and responsible for most of places we find ourselves off the south island. He’s also an enthusiastic taste tester of the home cooking featured on this blog (and the fails that don’t make it here!).

Food brings people together. It preserves history. And sometimes it just puts the trials of the day in perspective. We love how it can transports us from the dinner table to another time and place and how it can make a foreign place feel like just like home. A paper-thin piece of pecorino melting on your tongue; the Pacific Ocean rippling down your throat on the back of a Fanny Bay oyster; or the puckering finish of an oak-aged Malbec—these are the experiences we cherish and love to document here. We hope we inspire you to enjoy life one plate (or glass!) at a time.

Christine! I’m completely in love with your island. Can’t wait to go back and try some new food. But I’ll have to stop off at Brasserie L’Ecole. Wow! Words cannot describe the deliciousness :)
