Essentials

Make sure you have a selection of different sized boxes, a marker pen to label the boxes, some tape to seal the boxes, some bubble wrap and old newspaper for breakable items.

Be prepared

The earlier you start the better. Packing up the garage and loft for example, along with items you don’t need that often, such as Christmas decorations and gardening tools, can be done as soon as you have a moving date. Once packed and labelled, they can be stacked neatly out of the way giving you space to pack up larger items.

Room by room

Packing up a room at a time means all the items belonging in that room will stay together, making unpacking quicker and simpler and if you need to find anything in a hurry, this will also save you time!

Weight

As tempting as it might be to use large boxes for lots of items, if the box is too heavy, it is likely to break and also make carrying difficult and potentially dangerous. It’s a good idea to save the big boxes for large, one-off items and use smaller boxes for everything else.

Technique

Use the old newspaper to fill in any gaps in the boxes, as this will ensure items stay safe and secure during transport.

The cost of moving has reached an all-time high according to this recent report in House Beautiful Magazine.

Labelling

Label every box and if you are moving to a new family home, colour coding the boxes is also a good idea and makes life a lot easier when you arrive at your new house.

Companies such as Bristol removals company Bristol removals company offer a variety of services and products to help make your move go as smoothly as possible.

Rubbish

Don’t be tempted to transport hazardous materials. Unless it is essential, or valuable, dispose of it safely.

Essentials box

Always remember to have a box which you pack last and take with you in your car. Packing a kettle, some refreshments, mugs, cleaning products and toys if you have young children will make your life much easier.
