Rock-a-bye – The Art of Sleep

A lack of sleep seems to be part of modern life. With many adults regularly not getting enough sleep. Whether the lack of sleep is due to overworking, stress or parenthood, it has the same foggy minded effects the next day. A continual lack of sleep has been linked to various medical and mental health conditions and is known to contribute to both anxiety and depression symptoms. Some would say that it is just something else to contend with in modern day society. However, there are some things that you can do to help ad a good night’s sleep.

  • Decluttering your bedroom helps to aid a calm feeling that will enable you to have a much more relaxed bedroom routine.   • Removing televisions and laptops from the bedroom. The bedroom should be for just 3 activities one of them is sleeping and the other 2 are, shall we say, to do with more carnal or personal activities. If you have lots of distractions, then you will find it is a lot hard to get your sleep rhythm in gear and be able to wind down.
  • Refrain from drinking coffee or tea to close to bedtime. Don’t touch booze either these are all stimulants and as such they will increase brain activity which is sure fire way of stopping your mind from easing into sleep. The chemical imbalance caused by such drink is a big no, no. Try a nice Camomile instead its reputed to have calming qualities.
  • Keep your phone away from you for a least an hour before bedtime. Forget Facebook and no last-minute checking on your emails or twitter feed. Just get that done and out the way an hour before bed otherwise you’ll find yourself liking videos into the small hours and then be too wired to nod off

  • Take a bath. Yes, that’s right, lounge into a nice warm, but not scalding, bath before you start the to go to bed process. This relaxed approached will calm the mind and let your think out all the events of the day before you go to bed. You ‘ll find a clearer mind as all the issues you had should have been thought out first.
  • Get a routine going and set a time. Stick to the time as well. Know you going to bed at ten, tell people that’s your bedtime and not to disturb you. If you have a bedtime it will make the other items above a lot easier to see through. Sweet dreams.
