About Us
Savoury Traveller began with a simple thought: there is an awful lot worth talking about.
The name suggests food and travel, and we do write plenty about both. But we take travelling more loosely than most. Over a lifetime we move through new places, new homes, new jobs and new interests, pick up new technology and reach whole new stages of life. Each of those turns up something worth finding out about and passing on, and that is what this site is for.
We are a group of writers covering the subjects we know, the ones we enjoy, and the ones we have fallen down a research rabbit hole over. So an article on food or travel might sit next to ideas for the house and garden. We write about health, fashion and family life, and we are just as happy talking about cars, technology, business or property, or whatever has caught our eye that week. It is varied on purpose.
Eight writers, plenty to talk about
The site is written across eight desks. Each writer brings their own area of interest and their own way of looking at things.
Hannah Mitchell: travel, food and drink
Hannah writes about places worth the trip and the food and drink that make them stick in the memory. That covers travel ideas and hotels, restaurants and recipes, and good finds much closer to home.
Sophie Bennett: health, beauty and fashion
Sophie covers everyday wellbeing, health, beauty and personal style, looking at the ideas and trends that can make daily life feel a bit better.
Emily Carter: home and interiors
Emily is interested in getting more out of the places we live, writing about kitchens, interiors, decorating and cleaning, and about practical ways to make a home work for the people in it.
James Fletcher: garden, property and building
James writes about what happens beyond the front door: gardens, property, renovations, heating, roofing, driveways, extensions and the practical side of looking after bricks and mortar.
Daniel Brooks: motoring and engineering
Daniel writes about cars and motoring and the engineering behind everyday things, with the odd detour into machinery, manufacturing, metals and the more technical side of life.
Richard Lawson: business, finance and careers
Richard covers working life in its many forms: business and finance, careers and education, and ideas for starting something of your own or growing what you already have.
Alex Morgan: technology and digital
Alex keeps an eye on an increasingly digital world, from technology and websites to digital marketing and social media, and the tools and trends changing how we work and talk to each other.
Laura Williams: lifestyle, family and weddings
Laura covers the wide ground of everyday life, including family, entertainment, weddings, sport and reviews, plus the subjects that refuse to fit neatly into a box.
What ties it together? Curiosity
We don’t think everything worth reading has to fit one tightly drawn category. One weekend you want somewhere new to go. The next you need ideas for a kitchen renovation. After that you might be comparing cars, reading up on a health trend or trying to make sense of a piece of technology everyone suddenly seems to be discussing.
Our writers follow those interests wherever they lead. Some articles are practical and some are there to inform. Others are observations, recommendations or musings on something we found interesting enough to write about. Think of Savoury Traveller as a set of conversations between curious people: eight desks, and no rule that every conversation has to be about the same thing.
