The town is most famous for its beautiful Regency architecture of the 19th century, which followed in the footsteps of the rich heritage of neo-classical Georgian housing also present in the town. The most noticeable Regency features include cream or white symmetrical frontage, iron railings, large sash windows and a column-flanked elevated front door accessed via stone steps.
