Top billing at the Trocadero

The Trocadero has been serving the theatrical set and theatre-goers for more than 60 years. With its plush banquette seating and red-painted walls filled with photographs of some of the celebrities who have dined here, it is a pretty dramatic setting. This is the top place to go for quality Irish food. The chefs use locally-sourced produce, and offerings include superb steaks using 28-day, dry-aged Irish Angus beef and fish dishes such as Duncannon monkfish with a sweet soy and balsamic glaze. The pre-theatre, three-course menu is great value for money.

Dining with a view

Fishbone offers the freshest fish straight from the sea in a wonderful setting next to Dublin Bay and the Royal Dublin Golf Club. Seafood lovers can enjoy the special Fishbone chowder, Lambay crab claws, Carlingford oysters served with a glass of Guinness, or a seafood platter.

Just along the Clontarf Road from the Fishbone is the Bay restaurant, also next to Dublin Bay, with dishes that are influenced by cuisine around the world and use the finest Irish ingredients wherever possible. A favourite for many diners is the chef’s special of barbecued miso poussin served with a chilli dip and daikon salad.

On the right lines

For an elegant dining experience, Chapter One is at the top of many people’s list. Chef Ross Lewis has won the Chef of the Year award in the national Food & Wine awards. The Parnell Square restaurant with a Michelin star serves contemporary Irish cuisine with a French twist in an elegant dining room. Dishes such as wild halibut or black leg chicken look like a work of art on a plate.

Breakfast like a king

The Bakehouse next to the Ha’penny bridge in the heart of Dublin serves hearty Irish food and is well-loved for its impressive Bakehouse grill of Irish back bacon, sausage, black and white pudding with fried egg, grilled tomatoes and toast. For a healthier option, the Irish smoked salmon with scrambled eggs on toasted soda bread is a real treat.
