How to style your porch for winter

While it’s easy in summer to create a stunning display using flowers or ornamental vegetables, when the weather turns to autumn and then winter, it can be harder. But don’t worry, you can still make your porch look stylish and welcoming, even in the depths of winter.

Here are some ideas for you to try:

Inside out

Do you have anything in your interior design collection that wouldn’t suffer too much from some time exposed to the elements? For example, wooden crates, decorative sticks and wooden furniture can all be used to make an attractive display. Soften it with a cushion or two and a warm blanket or throw and there’s no reason you can’t sit outside all year.

Evergreens

There’s one thing that stays vibrant in midwinter, and that’s evergreens. Whether you keep small conifers in pots or go out and cut down boughs of holly, you can make a stunning display on your porch even when it’s snowing.

Let there be light

You can make your porch look inviting by adding lights. A traditional porch light, with a sensor, ensures visitors can see their way safely, but arrangements of fairy lights or battery-operated candles look great too. If you have an oak porch, like one of these from http://www.bespoaktimberframes.co.uk/portfolio_page/oak-porch/, then careful lighting can really bring out the beauty of the wood.

Stones

One thing that doesn’t change no matter the weather is stones and rocks. Whether you like to pick up sea-smoothed pebbles from the beach or collect rougher pieces, they can make an effective display. If you have any fossils, they can add a point of interest. You can also paint rocks and stones with moss paint to get a more organic look.

Tiles

As this article from The Guardian shows, it’s possible to use tiles to give a stunning effect throughout the year. Displays like this needn’t cost the earth. You could use broken crockery for an eclectic and interesting look, and include things like marbles, or other decorative items. Or combine the last two ideas together and use small stones to create a mandala or similar design to welcome guests.

As you can see, there are plenty of ideas to keep your porch looking stunning throughout the year. We hope you found something in this list to suit you.
